Aït Ben Haddou is de reden om te stoppen. De ksar is een verzameling lemen kasba's die tegen een heuvel boven de Ounila-rivier zijn gestapeld, gebouwd van aangestampte aarde en stro en al eeuwenlang telkens hersteld. Er wonen nog een paar families; de rest is als monument bewaard. De rivierbedding oversteken en naar de graanschuur bovenaan klimmen duurt ongeveer een uur en levert een uitzicht over de Ounila-vallei op.
Ouarzazate zelf is eerder een werkstad dan een bezienswaardigheid. Hier zitten de Atlas Film Studios en de CLA Studios — de Marokkaanse filmindustrie is echt geconcentreerd in dit stuk woestijn — en Kasbah Taourirt, ooit een bolwerk van de Glaoui, is een halfuur waard. De meeste reizigers lunchen hier, bezoeken een van de twee en rijden verder.
