Casablanca is eerder een moderne handelsstad dan een historische stad, en reizigers die er een keizersstad verwachten, worden soms verrast. De Hassan II-moskee rechtvaardigt de stop op zichzelf. De moskee werd in 1993 voltooid, biedt binnen plaats aan 25.000 gelovigen en buiten op het plein aan nog eens 80.000, en er zijn meerdere keren per dag rondleidingen in verschillende talen. Het schuifdak van de gebedszaal en de glazen vloer boven het water blijven mensen het meest bij.
Voor de meeste bezoekers is Casablanca een aankomst- of vertrekpunt. Hier landen en direct doorrijden naar Rabat, Fez of Marrakech is volkomen redelijk — maar de rondleiding door de moskee past goed in de tijd voor een late vlucht naar huis.
